Liberation

In her latest series, Liberation, Aida Izadpanah merges her tactile abstract painting and porcelain sculptural creations in complicated composite pieces. She renders large canvases with slashes, burns, and inside-out folds, from which emerge arrangements of her hand-made and -fired porcelain flowers in glazed, unglazed, 24-karat gold, and platinum finishes. These are mounted on boards with obscured LED lighting, which are attached to the backs of the canvases. Her aim with these works is to inspire a sense of hope and liberation from oppressive social and personal boundaries.
