Confluence

Porcelain and fiber sculpture series, 2026

Confluence explores the transformation and interconnectedness of porcelain and fiber through an interdisciplinary sculptural practice. The series brings two enduring craft traditions into dialogue: hand-crocheted fiber and porcelain, informed by the interconnected structures of Persian carpet weaving. Aida Izadpanah transforms crocheted networks by repeatedly immersing them in porcelain slip and firing them, preserving their intricate patterns while shifting their material identity from soft and flexible fiber to delicate, enduring ceramic forms.

From these networks, hand-built porcelain leaves, stems, buds, and flowers emerge, creating organic forms that exist between botanical, anatomical, and imagined realms. Through repetition, casting, hand-building, and light, Confluence explores vulnerability, resilience, transformation, and the generative possibilities of connection.
